# WebCite

> An archive with no listing API. It answers unsupported, with the reason, instead of pretending.

<provider-facts slug="webcite">

</provider-facts>

## Load it

```ts
import { createArchive, providers } from "@agntn/archives";
const archive = createArchive(providers.webcite());
const response = await archive.snapshots("example.com");
response.success; // false
response.unsupported; // true
response.unsupportedReason; // "WebCite has no list-by-domain API. …", the library's own words
```

## Why it exists

WebCite stored citations by id and never exposed a way to list captures for a domain; it also stopped accepting new archives around 2019. Existing snapshots are still reachable at `webcitation.org/<id>` if you know the id.

The provider is in `providers.all()` anyway, so a merged listing always carries the record under `_meta.unsupportedProviders`. That is deliberate: an agent asking "which archives could not answer?" gets a name and a reason instead of an absence.

`content()` answers the same way.

## Where it lives

`src/providers/webcite.ts`, the shortest provider in the tree and the template for what an unsupported answer looks like.
